 –   Crete
I have just read your article in "Greece" dated May 2005. My wife and I plan to retire to Crete and am investigating the options re. location etc.
With your detailed knowledge of Crete is there an area to avoid?
We seek dry, warm winters, amonst locals , but with some contact with ex-pats. Independant advise re. Crete would be invaluable. We are confused with all the info supplied by Developers and Agents.
Thanks David & Pam Winks

 –   This site is nothing to do with me
The web site www.robingauldie.com is not authorised by me or in any way connected with me, and when I find out who is running it there will be reckoning, one way or the other.
I have only just discovered the existence of this site, so my apologies for this very belated reply. If you are still looking at retiring to Crete and dry warm winters are your priority, forget it. Winters in Crete (December-March) are cold, wet, dull, and miserable and anyone who tells you different is bullshitting.
Sorry about that

Who runs this site?
 Reply    Report

Whoever runs it is using it to sell off outdated, out of print guidebooks, bought cheap from the publishers and sold at a mark-up. The edition of Top 10 Crete offered for sale on this site is out of date and is no longer in print. Walking Amsterdam is out of date and is no longer in print. The Charming Small Hotels Guide to Greece, written in 2005, is completely outdated.
Up to date editions of these books are available from the publishers, from bookshops and on Amazon. Don't waste your money buying the outdated editions on this site.

Hello Robin,

Chanced on your website, having read
"Bask in the Baltic" in Telegraph.
Excellent, as I would have expected of you-- your sense of humour, as strong as ever!
You certainly get around and are clearly enjoying your choice of profession..
We should, by now, be residing in Oz
nearby Sandy, but circumstances dictated otherwise and we are still in Broughty Ferry ( basking in the rain). In the meantime and in the circumstances,Sandy and husband Peter, whom you have not met, live in
K.L., he in oil,she in clover, but right now, here in B.F.,Ann being far from well.
Enough already-- keep well and keep up the good work..

Regards

IAN
